The Inspiration
Our inspiration for Mutu came from our love for consoles. We wanted to create a console that would reflect our personality, our taste, our style. A console that would be unique and original, but also timeless and universal.
We decided to use the Art Deco as the main inspiration for our console. We wanted to create a console that would have the same qualities and characteristics, but also add a touch of modernity and luxury.
We named our console Mutu, a word that means “quality” in Maori. We wanted to convey the idea of a console that is not just a name, but also a quality.
The Design
To translate our inspiration into a design, we had to find the right materials and techniques. We wanted to create a console that would reflect the qualities of the Art Deco, but also add a touch of modernity and luxury.
We chose bronze as the material for the console. It can be cast into various shapes and forms, and it can also be polished and finished to create different effects. We liked the idea of using a metal that is both ancient and modern, both rustic and refined.
We cast the bronze into a sleek and streamlined form that resembles the Art Deco’s shape. We also gave it two different finishes: high polished bronze and piano black. The high polished bronze exudes warmth and luxury, while the piano black adds depth and contrast. The combination of the two finishes creates a stunning visual effect, and also a subtle reference to the musical instrument that inspired the name.
